If you’re unhappy with how dry and dull your skin looks, microdermabrasion might be a treatment option for you.
At Dermatology Center of Northwest Houston, experienced dermatologist, Lisa Hitchins, MD, PA, and our aestheticians offer comprehensive skin evaluations to determine if microdermabrasion can revitalize your skin and help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
How microdermabrasion works
Microdermabrasion is a method of exfoliating your skin with tiny crystals. During your treatment, our aesthetician applies the exfoliating crystals to the surface of your skin. We can treat your face and neck at the same time.
Using a handheld electronic device, your provider gently massages the crystals into your skin to remove the dead skin cells on the surface. The exfoliating process can last up to 60 minutes to sufficiently remove dead surface skin without damaging the tissue below.
As the dead skin is sloughed away, the healthy, fresh skin beneath is revealed. This skin is younger-looking and more evenly toned and your results look completely fresh and natural.
Good candidates for microdermabrasion
You might be a candidate for microdermabrasion if you’re looking for a minimally invasive method for improving the health and appearance of your skin.
Microdermabrasion can also address minor skin flaws that affect how you feel about your skin such as:
- Large pores
- Melasma
- Uneven texture
- Hyperpigmentation
- Sunspots and age spots
If you have facial scars from chickenpox, a minor injury, or acne, microdermabrasion can make them less noticeable.
After your treatment, our aestheticians will further protect the health of your skin by applying a high-quality lotion, such as CeraVe®, Aveeno®, or Cetaphil® to lock in moisture and prevent flaking.
You might not be a candidate for microdermabrasion if you have active skin infections or certain skin diseases. Our team can determine if your skin is healthy enough for treatment and we can address existing skin issues if needed.
Know the benefits of microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion offers many benefits for people with all skin tones and types. The exfoliating crystals we use in your treatment are fine enough to prevent skin damage but powerful enough to remove the surface layer of dead skin cells.
You also get instant results you can see after your microdermabrasion treatment. Your skin appears brighter and younger-looking right away and your results will be long-lasting.
Our aestheticians can also combine microdermabrasion with other skin treatments to maximize your results. Depending on the issues you want to correct, they can recommend a facial or glycolic peel to boost the softness and freshness of your skin.
Make microdermabrasion a regular part of your beauty routine
Microdermabrasion is an effective way to rejuvenate your skin. To help you achieve your desired results, our aesthetics team recommends having a series of treatments over several weeks.
We can also determine how often you need to come back for maintenance treatments to help you maintain your younger, healthier-looking skin tone and texture.
Under our close supervision, we can perform your microdermabrasion treatments without drying out or damaging your skin. You can also benefit from the routine skin evaluations Dr. Hitchins offers to ensure your skin stays healthy for a long time.
