Microneedling: The All-Natural Solution for Younger Looking Skin

At the Dermatology Center of Northwest Houston, we use the effective and popular technique to rejuvenate our clients’ skin, leaving them looking fresher, smoother, and younger. Moreover, we use the safe technique to address various other skin issues.

What is microneedling?

Microneedling invokes your skin’s healing response by producing microtrauma in a targeted manner. A device with tiny needles moves across the treatment area to produce controlled punctures, forcing the skin into healing mode.

In response, your body stimulates elastin and collagen production, leaving you with younger- and healthier-looking skin and enhancing skin texture and quality.

If you find the idea of needles unnerving, rest assured that the needles are extremely tiny compared with traditional needles. In fact, they’re gentle enough to use around the eyes.

What should I expect during a microneedling procedure?

The procedure takes place at our office, and we might use a numbing cream or recommend an over-the-counter painkiller to make the experience more comfortable.

During treatment, your aesthetician uses a roller or tool that’s coated in fine, short needles. Then, the tool is passed over your face while paying keen attention to the concerned areas.

On average, you can expect to spend 30-60 minutes during each treatment. We recommend a treatment course, with each session several weeks apart to attain the best results. After a treatment, you might experience swelling or redness in the treated area, but it typically subsides within a day, maybe up to a week depending on the sensitivity of your skin and the aggressiveness of the treatment.

The number of sessions needed depends on your skin’s condition, although you typically undergo 3-5 treatments at intervals of 4-6 weeks. After that, you’ll want to schedule maintenance treatments every 6-9 months.

Can microneedling address skin problems?

The procedure can help address various skin problems, including:

Acne scarring

A popular use for this procedure is the removal or reduction of mild and moderate scarring caused by acne. Whether the scars are old or new, microneedling offers an effective way of breaking down the rough scar tissue, allowing it to smooth out with elastin development and fresh collagen.

Wrinkles and fine lines

The time you spent in the sun in your younger days is probably responsible for your facial wrinkles, sun damage, and thinning of your skin, which leads to the loss of collagen and elastin.

At the Dermatology Center of Northwest Houston, you can expect to see considerable improvement because the microneedling technique encourages collagen and natural elastin. Our patients also experience minimization in fine lines, wrinkles, and scars.

Certain skin areas usually become darker than other areas in patients with this condition. Unusually dark skin patches emerge when the skin cells in the affected areas produce excess melanin.

Various medications and conditions are common sources of dark skin patches. Our patients experience a sense of relief when we inform them that microneedling can reduce hyperpigmentation because it works to shed the top skin layer while generating normal melanocyte. And it’s safe even for those with darker skin tones.
